Methodology

How we analyse
every company.

Every POFIT Score is the output of the same six-pillar framework. The weights are published. The inputs are auditable. There is no black box.

30% weight

Growth

How fast is the business compounding — and can it keep going?

Key factors
  • Revenue CAGR (3Y / 5Y / 10Y)
  • Earnings growth durability
  • Operating cash flow trend
  • Reinvestment runway
Worked example

A software company growing revenue 22% over 5 years with expanding operating margins scores in the top decile.

20% weight

Valuation

Are we paying a fair price relative to intrinsic value?

Key factors
  • P/E vs 10Y median
  • EV / EBITDA vs peers
  • DCF-derived fair value
  • Margin of safety
Worked example

A quality compounder trading 25% below its 10Y median P/E with a 30% DCF margin of safety scores highly here.

20% weight

Quality

How good is the business — measured by returns on capital?

Key factors
  • Return on equity (5Y avg)
  • Return on invested capital
  • Gross margin stability
  • Free cash flow conversion
Worked example

A consumer brand with 25%+ ROCE for a decade and 90%+ FCF conversion is Quality-tier.

15% weight

Financial Strength

Can the business survive — and thrive through — a downturn?

Key factors
  • Net debt / EBITDA
  • Interest coverage
  • Current ratio
  • Contingent liabilities
Worked example

Net cash on balance sheet, 12x interest cover, and low working-capital intensity earns a full score.

10% weight

Business Quality

The qualitative moat — brand, network, switching cost, scale.

Key factors
  • Competitive moat width
  • Management track record
  • Capital allocation history
  • Governance and disclosures
Worked example

A category leader with founder-led management and a 15Y history of value-accretive M&A rates highly.

5% weight

Momentum

Is the market beginning to recognize the story?

Key factors
  • Earnings revision trend
  • Relative price strength
  • Volume behaviour
  • Post-results drift
Worked example

Consistent upward EPS revisions and improving relative strength versus the index add a modest tilt.

Scoring model

A single 0–100 conviction score

Each pillar is scored 0–100 on absolute and relative bases. The pillar scores are weighted and summed to produce the POFIT Score. Tiers are assigned by score band:

  • Elite85 – 100
  • High Conviction70 – 84
  • Strong Candidate55 – 69
Formula
POFIT Score =
  0.30 × Growth
+ 0.20 × Valuation
+ 0.20 × Quality
+ 0.15 × Financial Strength
+ 0.10 × Business Quality
+ 0.05 × Momentum

Pillar scores are normalised across our full coverage universe so scores stay comparable across sectors and geographies.
